Sannino: 'Sicilian Derby means so much'

Palermo go into the Sicilian Derby against Catania and desperately need points to escape relegation. “A few weeks ago we were given up for dead, but we came back,” said Giuseppe Sannino.

The Rosanero are still in the bottom three, albeit closer to safety than they were a couple of rounds ago. The Derby di Sicilia is at 14.00 UK time on Sunday (13.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.

“A few weeks ago we were given up for dead, but we came back from the brink and want to fight for our safety,” said the Coach.

“It would be important to win this Derby for many different reasons, first of all for our confidence and our position in the table.

“Josip Ilicic is at our disposal, as he trained regularly with the team, but we cannot count on Fabrizio Miccoli.

“Our fans might not be able to follow us en masse to Catania, but we will feel their warmth anyway. The Derby is not a game that is separate from the rest of the season, as it is a step on our journey. We hope to give the fans great joy.”

Palermo squad for Catania: Benussi, Brichetto, Sorrentino; Aronica, Dossena, Garcia, Morganella, Munoz, Nelson, Von Bergen; Arevalo Rios, Anselmo, Barreto, Donati, Faurlin, Formica, Ilicic, Kurtic, Viola; Boselli, Dybala, Fabbrini, Hernandez, Sperduti
