Mateo Kovacic, the January signing from Dinamo Zagreb, insists things can only get better at Italian giants Inter.

The 18-year-old has impressed onlookers with his mature performances even if the Beneamata have been struggling for results.

“I'd like to say a big thank you to all of the fans,” he told Inter Channel. “I'm very happy to be here at this club.

“I'm disappointed that things aren't going well, but I think we'll perform well both in our remaining matches this season and over the coming years.”

An Inter side crippled by injuries is running the risk of failing to qualify for Europe after losing five of their last seven League matches.

“We've not done well in the last few games,” the youngster added. “We need to win our last four because the season's not over yet.

“We can play well and I hope we show that.”

Kovacic also paid tribute to Javier Zanetti, the Inter captain who is facing six months out of action after snapping his Achilles tendon.

“First and foremost, Javier is a lovely human being. Then, he's a great captain,” the Croatian commented.

“I'm very happy to have got to know him, and sad about the injury he's suffered. But I know he'll be fit and back among us soon.

“I know it's a bad injury, but I hope he's back soon and we'll be waiting for him.”
