The Swiss side had scared them by taking the lead before half-time with Mohamed Salah, which put the tie 2-2 on aggregate.

Fernando Torres, Victor Moses and a David Luiz stunning curler into the far top corner turned it around in the space of 19 minutes.

In the other semi-final, Benfica quickly wiped out the 1-0 first leg defeat to Fenerbahce thanks to Nicolas Gaitan.

A controversial Dirk Kuyt penalty levelled the scores on the night and gave the Turks a precious away goal.

Oscar Cardozo confirmed his spectacular form this season by bagging a brace to put Benfica 3-2 up on aggregate.

There were panicked scenes at the Estadio Da Luz when Gaitan accidentally kicked Gokhan Gonul in the face, knocking him out cold. The defender was stretchered off still unconscious and taken to hospital for tests.

The Europa League Final in Amsterdam will be Chelsea-Benfica on May 15.
