There were no home wins at all in Week 36 and eight away victories, which matches the Serie A record already achieved on nine other occasions. It happened in Week 14 of 1946-47, Week 1 of 1960-61, Week 7 and Week 9 in 1961-62, Week 33 in 1992-92, Week 13 in 2004-05, Week 30 in 2005-06, Week 18 in 2007-08 and Week 9 in 2010-11.
Lazio had not conquered San Siro in Serie A since a spectacular 5-3 result in October 1998, managing six draws and seven consecutive defeats. The Aquile were without a point here since a 1-1 in October 2004, scoring six goals and conceding 17. Inter have lost seven of the last nine rounds, but the Biancocelesti ended a run of one point from six away games. Andrea Stramaccioni’s side lost four of the last five home ties, winning 1-0 against Parma on April 21.
With 15 defeats, Inter set a new club record in a 20-team League and it is their worst season since notching up 19 losses in 1947-48. They also fail to qualify for any European competition for the first time in 14 years, as the Biscione last missed out in 1999.
Hernanes marked his 100th Serie A appearance with his 30th goal, while Eddy Onazi got his debut top flight strike. The Nerazzurri were awarded a penalty for the second match in a row, having received none for 23 rounds, but Ricky Alvarez slipped to turn it over the bar.
Roma failed to score at the Olimpico for the first time in precisely two years, having netted 80 goals in 37 Serie A home games since a 0-0 with Milan on May 7 2011. It was the third consecutive meeting with Chievo in which they fired blanks.
Chievo earned their third victory over the Giallorossi, home and away, in 23 encounters. They had also won 1-0 at the Bentegodi earlier this term and conquered Rome in January 2003, but hadn’t scored at the Olimpico since October 2006. Eugenio Corini’s men are the only side without an away draw this season, having won six and lost 12.
Mario Balotelli sets a new personal best with 11 Serie A goals, as his previous record was nine with Inter in 2009-10. He achieved this in only 11 games for the Rossoneri, but included five penalties. Mathieu Flamini extended his record with four goals this season, all netted in the last five rounds.
Pescara have lost all eight of their home matches in 2013 and conceded four or more goals on six different occasions this season, including a 4-1 at San Siro. The Delfini have only beaten Milan once, home or away, in 1979 with one draw and eight defeats. Pescara are now only one defeat shy of Venezia’s all-time record of 27 in the 1949-50 campaign.
Napoli finally managed to get past Bologna after losing both encounters this season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia. The Partenopei have now lost just once in 18 rounds, including 11 victories. Edinson Cavani continued his fine form, scoring nine goals in the last seven matches and setting a new personal best of 27 this season. Marek Hamsik joins Francesco Totti in being the only players to reach double figures in terms of both goals and assists this term.
Udinese celebrated a sixth consecutive Serie A victory, their third at the Barbera after a 5-1 result in March 2005 and infamous 7-0 in February 2011. This equals their club record of six straight wins set in May 2009 under Coach Pasquale Marino.
Antonio Di Natale had scored in four of his last five games against Palermo for a total of six goals, but saw his spot-kick saved here. Curiously, only six of Di Natale’s 20 Serie A goals this season were scored on their travels. Abel Hernandez celebrated his first goal since April 25 2012, Palermo 1-2 Parma, having missed most of the season with a knee injury.
Juventus notched up a ninth consecutive victory and a fourth straight clean sheet. Atalanta confirmed their Bianconeri curse, losing the last six meetings, home and away.
Siena’s problems are easy to identify, as they haven’t scored in any of their last five home games and have lost four in a row without finding the net. The last time Robur beat Fiorentina, home or away, in Serie A was 1-0 in November 2008, followed by two draws and five losses. Gonzalo Rodriguez becomes the most prolific defender in any of the top five European Leagues this season with his sixth strike.
Catania continue to improve upon their club record, rising to 52 points in a single season. The Elefantini have never won away to Sampdoria in the top flight, scraping three draws from seven attempts. Samp extended their winless streak to nine rounds, but are still mathematically safe from relegation.
Parma are unbeaten in their last five encounters with Cagliari, home and away, winning three on the bounce. Although this game was hosted by the Stadio Rocco in Trieste, it still represents the Ducali’s first ‘away’ win to Cagliari since a 3-2 in March 2000, followed by four draws and three defeats. It also ends Parma’s poor away record, having amassed two points from their previous seven travels. The Sardinians failed to score for the third round running.
Torino make it two points from the last seven rounds, but at least ended a run of four consecutive defeats. The Granata haven’t beaten Genoa, home or away, since a 2-1 Serie B result in September 2004, managing only four draws from seven attempts. Toro haven’t scored in their last three games.
