Montella: I'm staying at Fiorentina'

Vincenzo Montella prepares to face Palermo tomorrow and assures “there is zero chance I’ll leave Fiorentina.”

The Coach has been linked with the Napoli job and confessed he would love to be in charge of his hometown club one day, but is keeping that moment down the line.

“There are always going to be rumours and my statement was extrapolated from a wider context,” he said in his Press conference.

“There is zero chance I’ll leave Fiorentina. We will continue our rapport, that is certain. Every element of the team deserves only applause for what they have done this season. Regardless of what their future holds, such as Luca Toni and Stevan Jovetic, I will be the first to applaud them.”

The Viola are battling to keep hold of fourth place, as third and the Champions League preliminary round appear to be within Milan’s grasp. There are even signs the Rossoneri have affixed a Champions League symbol to their 2013-14 team strip.

“Maybe Milan were sure of qualifying for some time and we just didn’t notice,” smiled Montella.

“We have no regrets. After all, if the Rossoneri don’t beat Roma then they have to win away to Siena next week, which will not be easy.”

Tomorrow’s opponents Palermo have one foot in Serie B and are desperate to avoid relegation.

“This game is a trap. Now they have a combative spirit that the Coach has given them and there could be less pressure now their situation has deteriorated, allowing them to play with more clarity of mind.

“We need to improve in terms of our finishing, but have already done so much since the start of the season. Wednesday’s game against Siena was tough on us in physical and psychological terms.”

Giuseppe Rossi was on the bench midweek for the first time since snapping a knee ligament in October 2011 and is closer to making his debut with the Viola.

“I saw a clear improvement in terms of physical strength and courage. I don’t know if he will be able to play, as I must see how he does in the next few training sessions,” concluded Montella.
