Milan full-back Ignazio Abate has confirmed that he was a January transfer target for Zenit St Petersburg.
“When Vice-President Adriano Galliani informed me of Zenit’s offer he didn’t even consider it,” the defender told Forza Milan! “He simply asked me to stay.
“He’s the person that wanted me at Milan and he’s never thought of selling me. In the year of the Scudetto, he even turned down an offer from Fiorentina for me.”
The Italian international, 26, moved to the Diavolo in the summer of 2009 after impressing with Torino.
Abate has featured in 26 Serie A games this term, as well as four in the Champions League.
