Dave Taylor picks a fantasy XI from the last round of the Serie A season.
Angelo Da Costa [Sampdoria]
Always alert and had to be as his goal was consistently peppered by Juve. Strongly tested on several occasions in the second half and showed absolutely amazing reflexes when stopping a Simone Padoin sidewinder. Stupendous.
Daniele Dessena [Cagliari]
Put in as an emergency right-back and played as if he had been there a lifetime. Thoroughly deserved to score what turned out to be the winner, with a close-range powerful header from Marco Sau’s free-kick. Scintillating.
Guglielmo Stendardo [Atalanta]
Led the backline impeccably and always unyielding. Scored early on after a mix up from a corner saw him pounce on the loose ball and score with a powerful close-up diving header. Steadfast.
Philippe Mexes [Milan]
Kept Roberto Vittielo and Innocent Emeghara quiet, pushing forward at every opportunity. Almost scored twice while also putting in several dangerous crosses. Saved his best for the late gateway to the Champions League with a well-struck goal from close range. Sagacious.
Marcelo Estigarribia [Sampdoria]
Ruled the left flank, blanking out his opposite numbers while producing two assists. The first from a corner, his second came after he raced down the right flank to slip a pass to Mauro Icardi for an easy tap-in. Self-assured.
Lorenzo De Silvestri [Sampdoria]
A top class performance down the right flank and never stopped running at Juve’s defenders for the whole game. Timed his run to perfection for his goal when he out-jumped everyone else to nod in at the near post. Superb.
Giampiero Pinzi [Udinese]
Always on the ball, he scored after just 40 seconds with a perfect right-footer into the bottom left corner of the net. Also set up Luis Muriel’s goal with a neat little chip over the Nerazzurri defence. Stunning.
Played as part of an attacking midfield trio and dominated Napoli, almost scoring just before half time. Immediately after the restart his right-footer flew into the bottom right corner from outside the area. Hit the post at the death. Sparkling.
Adem Ljajic [Fiorentina]
What a way to end the season with a hat-trick which almost took Fiorentina into the Champions League. Showed all his stunning abilities with a tap-in, beating the ‘keeper on a one to one and finishing with an unstoppable low drive. Sublime.
Cyril Thereau [Chievo]
Arguably the best player on the park, scoring twice, both equalisers. Collecting a through ball from Adrian Stoian, he struck with a left-footer from six yards. His second came moments before the whistle as he slotted home from a corner. Seasoned.
Mattia Destro [Roma]
Never stopped running and became more dangerous as the match wore on. He was rewarded for his excellent work when slipping past Rolando to easily beat Antonio Rosati with a left footed shot into the bottom left corner. Stimulating.
Special mentions: Antonio Di Natale [Udinese], Mauro Icardi [Sampdoria], Roberto Pereyra [Udinese], Alessio Cerci [Torino], Davide Astori [Cagliari], Cristian Zapata [Milan], Matias Fernandez [Fiorentina] Erik Lamela [Roma].
