Trap: 'Benitez good for Napoli'

Giovanni Trapattoni admits he’d love the Napoli job, but feels “Rafa Benitez can be an excellent choice.”

The Republic of Ireland manager spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli on the race to replace Walter Mazzarri, which has Benitez as hot favourite followed by Roberto Di Matteo.

“At times that moment comes when we Coaches feel the need to change,” explained Trap of Mazzarri’s decision to walk away.

“We must also add to this the fact we want to understand the club’s plans, because if they sell a player like Edinson Cavani then there is a big risk and you cannot guarantee the same results.”

Chelsea Interim Manager Benitez is increasingly likely to take over at the Stadio San Paolo next season, despite his poor six-month spell at Inter.

“Benitez has won a great deal and can be an excellent choice, as he has the experience and the ability,” continued Trapattoni.

“Would I do it? I did have contact with Napoli in the past, but I wanted to win elsewhere. Nowadays they’d consider me old hat! I’d definitely come to Napoli, but they are targeting a different Coach.”
