De La hints: Mancini or Martinez

“The name of Napoli’s next Coach begins with M,” said President Aurelio De Laurentiis. Is it Roberto Mancini or Roberto Martinez?

Up until now the hot favourite has been current Chelsea Interim Manager Rafa Benitez, especially as he is out of contract in June.

Attending an event in Naples this evening, President De Laurentiis dropped a hint when asked who would replace Walter Mazzarri.

“The name of Napoli’s next Coach begins with M,” he replied.

This would rule out Benitez, unless he was using the Spaniard’s full name, which is Rafael Benitez Maudes.

Other options who fit the clue would be recently fired Manchester City boss Mancini and Wigan Athletic manager Martinez.

Rumours emerged late last night that the real reason for De Laurentiis flying to London was not to see Benitez, but rather to convince Martinez of his plans.

There are also less likely candidates, such as Catania Coach Rolando Maran (who just signed a contract extension) and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Montella.
