Lazio legend Pino Wilson warned “there will never be a derby like this again” ahead of the Coppa Italia Final.
It kicks off at 17.00 UK time at the Stadio Olimpico with both Roma and Lazio knowing it’s their only chance of silverware, Europa League qualification and saving an otherwise poor season.
“I’d say it is the most important Rome derby of all time,” Wilson told TMW.
“Not only is there the Coppa Italia at stake, but also Europa League qualification ahead of their rivals and the chance to play the Italian Super Cup against Juventus.
“What more motivation and what better stage for this match than the Stadio Olimpico in Rome? It will be an even more passionate derby than the others and I think there will never be a derby like this again. It cannot be repeated.”
Wilson has long since retired, but is still feeling the effects of the derby as a fan.
“From Monday the tension starts to rise and slowly as you get towards the event more and more conversations turn to the game. I was fortunate enough to play in this match, but never in this situation with so many different objectives tied up in it.
“There are no appeals, no second chances, as both clubs know they have to win this game in order to re-evaluate this whole season.”
