Roma director Franco Baldini saw a tense Coppa Italia Final and confessed “we certainly can’t consider this a positive season.”

The Giallorossi finished sixth in Serie A, but lost the Final 1-0 to Lazio and therefore miss out on Europe again.

“It was the game we expected, as it was always going to be tense with so much at stake and neither side expressed their best football.

“An incident was always going to be decisive and luck smiled on Lazio. There’s nothing to say, the field gave the response and we accept that verdict, but the team gave everything they had.

“In terms of performance it wasn’t great, but the tension made it locked down and anxious on all sides. We tried to create our chances, as did they, and I am not disappointed with the way we played in the circumstances.

“The season achieved much less than we expected. We wanted more in terms of the Serie A table too and it has not been a satisfying campaign, as the Coppa Italia would’ve changed that. Of course, we certainly can’t consider it positive.

“The President is absolutely determined to continue making investments so we can strengthen the squad and carry on the project. We will make our considerations.

“I put together the staff and therefore of course I cannot say I don’t have responsibility for the way this season went.”

When asked whether Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli would stay on, Baldini said he “did a good job, but was treated like a supply teacher at times by the media.

“We lack a couple of players with certain characteristics. We are licking our wounds right now, so we leave decisions with regards to the Coach until tomorrow.”
