Cesare Prandelli has forward worries ahead of Italy’s friendly against San Marino on Friday.
The Azzurri host their neighbours in Bologna at the weekend and are already without Pablo Osvaldo after he was dropped from the squad following his outburst towards Aurelio Andreazzoli.
But they could also have Stephan El Shaarawy missing for the match after the Milan forward sat out training on Tuesday.
The young striker was being treated by doctors after an injury to his right ankle.
It is, as yet, unclear how long the 20-year-old will be out for.
