FIGC President Giancarlo Abete explained why Pablo Daniel Osvaldo was dropped from the Confederations Cup squad.

The Roma striker was cut from the side after breaking the code of ethics, as he insulted club Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli both on the field and via Twitter, while he also refused to pick up his runner-up medal at the Coppa Italia Final.

“I spoke to Cesare Prandelli about the situation and you know the spirit of the code of ethics, which safeguards respectful behaviour,” said Federation chief Abete.

“Before making the formal decision, we wanted to check with Roma whether the player had authorisation to miss the Coppa Italia ceremony. Seeing as he did not, our Coach made the final decision based on the information.”

Osvaldo is also likely to leave Roma this summer after the latest outburst and there are reports he is in advanced negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
