Marco Verratti has impressed at PSG, but his agent reveals “Napoli had a deal and turned him down.”

The former Pescara midfielder made the move to France last summer for €12m at the age of 19 and is now set to star for Italy in the European Under-21 Championships.

“Would Marco go to Napoli? I don’t think about it, as that ship has sailed,” agent Donato Di Campli told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“President Aurelio De Laurentiis had a deal, but Walter Mazzarri preferred to leave him at Pescara for another year, so they turned him down. That is the truth.”

Mazzarri left Napoli to take over at Inter last week, but does have a reputation for not putting his trust in young players.

“If I were De Laurentiis, I’d be angry about a lot of things. Napoli have a top class squad and could’ve achieved even more.

“In any case, Marco is happy in Paris, has a long contract with PSG and anyone who wants him has to take to the club.”
