Miralem Pjanic has revealed he was on the verge of joining Arsenal rather than Roma two years ago.

The midfielder moved to the capital giants on transfer deadline day in August 2011 after an €11m fee was agreed with Lyon.

“I had a number of offers at the time and I was set to join Arsenal,” the 23-year-old told Avaz Sport. “I had agreed all of the conditions that had been put into place.

“However, my father had given his word to Roma and therefore I opted to sign for the Giallorossi instead.”

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has scored six goals in 60 games for the Stadio Olimpico outfit.
