Milan have admitted an interest is signing Alessandro Matri from Scudetto rivals Juventus this summer.
“Matri grew up here with us,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani noted. “I’d like to bring him back home.”
The striker, who will be 29 in August, joined the Diavolo youth system in 1996. He remained on their books until his 2007 switch to Cagliari.
Matri is thought to be available for transfer this summer as the champions are looking to give their attacking department a new look.
The Italian netted eight goals in Serie A last season, but he was only used in 22 matches by boss Antonio Conte.
Matri, who joined the Old Lady in January 2011, is valued at around the €15m mark by the Turin giants.
Milan tactician Massimiliano Allegri knows the player well given that they worked together in Sardinia.
