Zac: 'Japan can scare Brazil'

Japan open the Confederations Cup against hosts Brazil today and Coach Alberto Zaccheroni warns “it’s not a foregone conclusion.”

The Asian Cup winners face the Seleçao in Brasilia at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT), sharing Group A with Italy and Mexico.

“I maintain the result is not a foregone conclusion,” said Japan manager Zaccheroni.

“Brazil are a great team, but we can still have our say. I know that we are playing against a side that is a long way ahead of us in the FIFA ranking, but we are accustomed to matches like this.”

The Blue Samurai are the first country to have already secured qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“In Europe where I come from a lot of people think the world never changes. I don’t see it that way.”
