Italy are in the European Under-21 Championship Final, but FIGC director Demetrio Albertini hopes “these lads can have more space in Serie A.”

Most of the Azzurrini squad are owned by top clubs, but ply their trade on loan in Serie B and are therefore less experienced than their Spanish opponents.

“I hope these lads can have more space in Serie A,” said Albertini.

“We are working a great deal with these youngsters, but unfortunately they still have to deal with a lack of experience.”

Italy play Spain in the Final on Tuesday at 17.00 UK time, effectively a replay of the Euro 2012 showdown.

“What we have been able to do in this tournament proves the good work behind the scenes. In three years we reached three Finals with the senior squad, Under-17s and now Under-21s.

“Above all I want to underline the synergy between Coaches Cesare Prandelli and Devis Mangia.”
