Italy’s Daniele De Rossi is remaining cautious ahead of the game against Japan. “Remember what happened in the last Confederations Cup…”
The Azzurri began the competition with a 2-1 win over Mexico last night, but De Rossi insists that Japan and Brazil still stand in the way of qualification.
“The three points have allowed us to take a forward step towards the semi-finals,” the Roma enforcer noted.
“However, we have to remain alert ahead of the next two matches.
“In the last Confederations Cup we won our first game 3-1. But we still ended up going out in the group stages.”
In South Africa 2009, Marcello Lippi’s side beat America, before losing to Egypt and then Brazil.
“Let’s see what happens next,” added the 29-year-old. “Generally speaking, we are in good shape right now.
“Apart from me that is. I’ve been dealing with a quite important ankle problem for the last few months. I’ve only played without any problems thanks to the medical staff.”
