Candreva wanted 'audacious Azzurri'

Antonio Candreva felt Italy “should’ve been more audacious” in the first half after a 4-2 defeat to Brazil.

“I think we played the second half comfortably on a par with Brazil, as we did much better and were more attacking than the first half,” the Lazio midfielder told Rai Sport.

“In these brief competitions we are conceding a few too many goals, but we were a little unlucky today and these things can happen.

“We should in part be satisfied, though we should’ve been more audacious in the first half. We must build on the second half performance for the future.

“The absence of Andrea Pirlo and Daniele De Rossi was keenly felt, as they are important elements for this squad.

“We faced a great side and held out physically too. We changed system after the break and more easily found Emanuele Giaccherini between the lines and Mario Balotelli in front.”

Candreva was asked what Cesare Prandelli said at half-time to make such a big difference.

“The Coach calmed us, told us not to give up and to believe in ourselves even more. I think we did what he asked.”
