Christian Maggio is still smarting that his chance to draw 3-3 with Brazil hit the bar. “Things just aren’t going our way.”

Italy had fought back to 3-2 down and were piling pressure on the Seleçao, but Maggio’s header smacked against the woodwork from point-blank range. Moments later, Fred sealed the final 4-2 scoreline.

“It’s a shame about the result, as we could’ve won this match. We are confident for the next game,” Napoli wide man Maggio told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“That header could’ve put us on 3-3 and perhaps changed the course of the tie. It was proof that at the moment things just aren’t going our way.”

Once again, the Azzurri got off to a very sluggish start and were fortunate not to concede several early on.

“I don’t know why, as we are asking ourselves that too. I saw some teammates who were very static in the opening minutes and we’ve got to work out how to be ready from the start for any eventuality.”
