Palermo would have made a bid to sign Antonio Cassano from Inter this summer had they avoided relegation.
The Italian forward is close to joining Parma, but things could have been different had the Rosanero escaped the drop last term.
“Had we stayed in the top flight then I certainly would have called Cassano,” Rosanero chief Maurizio Zamparini told Mediaset Premium.
“I would have tried to sign him because he is world class.”
The almost 31-year-old Cassano only joined the Nerazzurri last summer from city rivals Milan. He scored seven goals in 28 League games for the Beneamata.
