Sunderland are stepping up their attempts to sign Juventus midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini, offering £8.6m.
The versatile figure impressed at the Confederations Cup for Italy, playing in a variety of positions and scoring a splendid goal against Brazil.
Paolo Di Canio has set his sights on the 28-year-old and La Gazzetta dello Sport claims he has raised his offer from €8m to €10m – approximately £8.6m.
While a useful asset to the side, Giaccherini has mainly been used as a substitute or stop-gap solution at Juventus.
He scored three goals in just 17 Serie A appearances last season, playing a grand total of 950 minutes of football.
