Joaquin Sanchez has reflected on how Fiorentina’s style of play was the main reason he decided to sign with them this summer.

The Spaniard completed a move from Malaga earlier this summer and today was presented to the media, with preseason for La Viola now underway.

For the veteran, who last year enjoyed a run to the Champions League quarter-finals with Malaga, the choice to move to Florence was borne out of admiration for how Fiorentina play.

“The most important thing is that I like the way they play football,” commented Joaquin to reporters today.

“That’s with their handling of the ball, with possession, and they have some very important players. Handling the ball well controls football today.

“Regardless of the fact there are players I already knew here like Borja Valero, Rossi and Gonzalo, I am here for a reason. I took this decision because I knew it was the right time to leave Spain.

“The games I have seen of Fiorentina, they evoke a modern football, possession, mobility, a style of play that draws attention and resulted in last year’s fourth place.

“In everything in training we are using the ball, the first few days I was surprised to work a lot with the ball. And that makes for a lot of fun.”

The winger was asked of the prospect of linking up with strikers Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi in particular.

“I have played with some great strikers, but it is clear that Mario Gomez is a player who has shown his worth and he, along with many who are already in the squad, will help us with our play and its quality.

“Rossi seems fine after his injury. I have seen him cheerful and this is important. I know him from when he was at Villarreal, he has tremendous quality, but he also provides a lot of assists, his season will be important for the team.

“Where do I like to play? It depends on Montella. I usually play in attack on the right wing. In recent years with Pellegrini I often played up front or just behind, and also on the left.

“There are many possibilities and often in games I have moved between positions. However, my natural position is right wing.”

During his career, Joaquin has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea, whilst he also has 51 caps with Spain to his name.

“I’m going to turn 32 this year. I can look back and say that I have had the chance to show my worth, I do not have to prove anything.

“For me it is important to obtain results and to help Fiorentina have a good season. The years in which I attracted Madrid and Chelsea have passed me by, I have decided to come here to have fun and help Fiorentina.”
