Marco Parolo has spoken of his hopes for current club Parma and himself ahead of the new Serie A season.
The midfielder joined the Tardini outfit last summer from Cesena on a loan deal and impressed sufficiently enough to have now been netted outright.
“I thank Parma for signing me from Cesena,” the former Como and Verona man commented. “I’m happy to still be here.
“Last year I came in after a negative season with Cesena, then I slowly took confidence and consciousness of my values, integrating well with my teammates.
“I am feeling good. I’ve known most of my teammates and the club for a year now.
“I want to score more goals this season though as three were not enough. I hope to get at least five, but it will be the goals of the team that count at the end of the day.”
Parolo insists that escaping relegation will be the main aim, but some football betting pundits are suggesting the Gialloblu could have an outside shot at challenging for Europa League qualification in 2013-14.
“We need to start with the mentality of last year,” he continued. “We can do well and reach a safe position in the League which is always the first target.
“But we will try and take a step up in quality thanks to the new players.”
There is no doubt about the club’s stand-out buy of the summer after they did a deal with Inter for Italian international Antonio Cassano.
“Cassano has exceptional talent,” Parolo added. “He has unthinkable moves, I hope I can use them to score more and reach my personal target of goals.”
While Parma are at the forefront of Parolo’s mind, he admits that he’s also thinking of the Italian national side with the World Cup now less than a year away.
“I hope that I can return to the international set-up, but it all depends on what I do here. To earn a call-up by Cesare Prandelli I have to do well for Roberto Donadoni.”
Parolo was given his one and only cap to date in March 2011, when Italy beat the Ukraine 2-0 in a Kiev friendly.
