Higuain out of Real squad

Gonzalo Higuain has moved a step closer to joining Napoli after he was left out of Real Madrid’s squad for their Lyon tie.

The Argentine striker’s future has been the subject of speculation for most of the summer so far, but he still featured in Sunday’s 6-0 win over Bournemouth.

However, boss Carlo Ancelotti will be without the centre-forward tonight which suggests a transfer to the Azzurri is imminent.

Higuain is set to join the Serie A side in a €37m deal. He will reportedly net €6m a season in wages, €1m more than he currently earns in Spain.

Juventus and Arsenal were also interested in the South American, but their bids reportedly peaked at €22m and €28m respectively.

Napoli have money to spend after selling Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain for €64.5m.

Real Madrid squad for Lyon: Diego Lopez, Adan, Jesus, Pepe, Carvajal, Mateos, Casado, Nacho, Khedira, Ozil, Cheryshev, Di Maria, Isco, Illarra, Casemiro, Quini, Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Morata.
