Ciro Immobile doesn’t think his chances of being called up by Italy will be hampered by his move to Torino.
The striker, who is co-owned with Juventus, moved to the Granata this summer after they signed Genoa’s 50 per cent stake in him.
“Being called up to Cesare Prandelli’s international squad would be a dream,” the former Serie B top scorer noted.
“I’d like to imitate the journey of Alessio Cerci who, thanks to his performances for the Granata, was deservedly handed the Azzurri shirt.”
Immobile was a key player at Under-21 level for his country, but he is now too old to appear for the Azzurrini.
“My European Championship experience with the Under-21 side was really important,” he said when he reflected on his summer.
“I think my transfer fee went up by an extra €500,000 purely because of the goal which I scored in the Final against Spain…”
Devis Mangia’s boys finished Israel 2013 as runners-up. Gigi Di Biagio is now the new Coach of the Under-21 set-up.
