Italy boss Cesare Prandelli is expected to use a 4-3-2-1 formation in Wednesday’s international friendly against Argentina.
Having first fielded the system in the recent Confederations Cup, the tactician is set to keep faith with that shape tonight at the Stadio Olimpico.
Without the injured Mario Balotelli, Roma striker Daniel Pablo Osvaldo – born in Argentina – should be the lone forward supported by Lazio’s Antonio Candreva and Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini.
The former Fiorentina Coach does have a few doubts going into the tie though given that the season has not started and Sunday will see the Italian Super Cup Final between Juventus and Lazio.
Juve’s Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Pirlo could start on the bench or be taken off at half-time. Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti will step in for the latter.
Argentina, meanwhile, could field a front two made in Serie A – with Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain and Rodrigo Palacio of Inter.
Italy possible: Buffon; Maggio, Bonucci, Chiellini, Antonelli: Florenzi, Pirlo (Verratti), Marchisio; Candreva, Giaccherini; Osvaldo.
Argentina possible: Andujar; Campagnaro, Garay, F. Fernandez, Zabaleta; Di Maria, Biglia, Mascherano, Maxi Rodriguez; Higuain, Palacio.
