Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi is confident Fabio Liverani will be a success after he handed him his first top-flight coaching job.
The 37-year-old former midfielder was appointed over the summer after joining the club’s youth sector in November 2011.
“This is Liverani’s first experience, but I am certain that he will repay the faith we have shown in him,” the Rossoblu President noted.
“You’ll see, he will be a surprise of the season.”
Genoa have been through a variety of tacticians since Gian Piero Gasperini left in 2010 after four years at Marassi.
Since his dismissal, Preziosi has hired Davide Ballardini, Alberto Malesani, Pasquale Marino, Gigi De Canio and Gigi Del Neri. Ballardini and Malesani were fired and then later rehired.
Liverani is a former playmaker for the likes of Lazio, Fiorentina and Perugia. He also won three international caps during his career.
