Coppa: Gattuso off as Verona win

Gennaro Gattuso was sent off for dissent as his Palermo side lost to Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia.

The fiery former Milan midfielder is now Coach of the Sicilians and showed his character has now been dimmed by hanging up his boots.

Paulo Dybala threatened early on and thumped his effort against the upright, but former Palermo star Luca Toni put Hellas Verona ahead with their first real scoring opportunity.

It was a typical Toni goal, nodding in Martinho’s cross from six yards.

The hosts hit the woodwork for the second time with Andelkovic and Gattuso saw red for dissent after two dubious incidents in the penalty area.

Rafael performed a crucial late save on Abel Hernandez to secure Verona’s qualification for the Fourth Round.

Palermo 0-1 Verona

Scorers: Toni 37 (V)
