Sampdoria’s Lorenzo De Silvestri feels he deserved his call-up to the Italian national side for the recent Argentina friendly.
The defender was surprisingly recalled to the set-up, two years after his previous selection in the Giro Azzurro.
“Being picked was the icing on the cake for all of the hard work I did last season,” the 25-year-old told Tuttosport.
“I had an excellent second half of the campaign and I dedicate the call-up by Cesare Prandelli to myself seeing as I’ve had to swallow some bitter pills in the past…
“I now hope to do just as well this time around, but there is no doubt that 2013-14 couldn’t have started any better for me.”
The full-back will still be playing at Marassi after Sampdoria’s loan agreement was renewed with Fiorentina.
“I wanted to stay in Genoa,” the former Lazio man added. “I never kept that secret and the club wanted me to remain here as well.
“There were financial issues to resolve but, after a few weeks of waiting, the best solution for everybody was found.”
