“Being picked was the icing on the cake for all of the hard work I did last season,” the 25-year-old told Tuttosport.

“I had an excellent second half of the campaign and I dedicate the call-up by Cesare Prandelli to myself seeing as I’ve had to swallow some bitter pills in the past…

“I now hope to do just as well this time around, but there is no doubt that 2013-14 couldn’t have started any better for me.”
