Lorenzo De Silvestri claims his Sampdoria side have the potential to stop Juventus in Serie A on Saturday.
Although the defender has underlined the Old Lady’s status as favourites for another Scudetto, he doesn’t think they will necessarily win at Marassi in Week 1.
“Juventus can win their third title in a row hands down, but that doesn’t mean that we should feel beaten before kick-off,” the 25-year-old told Tuttosport.
“Juve are really strong, but it will still be 11 against 11 out there and if we stay focused, make sacrifices for each other, then we can play our own game.”
Sampdoria, who are 7/1 shots at betfair online to beat the Old Lady this weekend, will also be facing a side who demolished Lazio 4-0 in the Italian Super Cup last Sunday.
“I didn’t expect to see them at such an advanced stage already,” the former Lazio player, an Italian international, commented.
“All summer we have been hearing about the hard work that their boss Antonio Conte has been putting them through, but I instead saw a Juve side in form.
“Juventus were already so strong last season and now they are even stronger.”
The Turin giants breezed to the championship last term, but the port club did actually do the double over them.
“The win at the Juventus Stadium was like a fairy-tale,” De Silvestri recalled. “It was the perfect game for who won.
“We were down to 10 men and Mauro Icardi, starting just his second game, scored a splendid double.
“In the return, we wanted to give some satisfaction to our fans after some poor showings. We were really motivated, while Juve arrived with the Scudetto already in their pockets.”
