Reto Ziegler says he has joined Sassuolo with the intention of making it to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The left-back has signed for the newly promoted outfit on loan from Italian champions Juventus, a club who netted him two years ago – but one who never gave him a competitive game.
“Before accepting to come here I asked for a bit of thinking time,” the Switzerland international commented. “I spoke with boss Eusebio Di Francesco and with the club.
“This is an important season for me because there is the World Cup at the end of it and I want to be there.”
Ziegler has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Fenerbahce and Lokomotiv Moscow, but he wanted an Italian return.
“Playing again in Serie A was my target,” the former Sampdoria man added. “I could have joined Torino, but I am proud to be here.
“All I am interested in is the quality of Sassuolo and our primary objective is to reach the 40-point mark in the Division.”
