Cagliari can return to the Stadio Sant’Elia, while Udinese’s reconstructed Stadio Friuli also received the all-clear.

The Sardinians left the Sant’Elia in a row with the local council over a year ago, moving between the now defunct Is Arenas, the Stadio Tardini in Parma and current home venue the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste.

Today the local council approved plans to re-open the Sant’Elia with Cagliari, although it is not yet clear when the team will start playing there.

Udinese also received good news, as the Stadio Friuli passed an inspection today after a summer of redevelopment.

“It was a great moment and we are very satisfied, as our efforts have been repaid,” said the Project Manager Alberto Rigotto.

“We worked hard for three months and it was an incredible achievement, as along with the pitch we had to adjust the structures to achieve a 21,500 seater capacity.”

Udinese still need to get an eligibility certificate from UEFA for their Europa League games.

Tonight’s match with Slovan Liberec is played at the Stadio Rocco in Trieste, but the first Serie A home game of the season against Parma on September 1 will be at the Friuli.
