Torino abandon Maresca move

Torino have reportedly abandoned their attempts to sign Enzo Maresca from Sampdoria after fan protests.

The midfielder had been on the verge of completing the transfer after six months frozen out of the Blucerchiati squad.

However, according to Sky Sport Italia, the ultras won with their complaints and forced Torino to drop the deal.

They were angry at the fact Maresca played for their arch rivals Juventus in the past and mocked them with his celebration when scoring in the 2002 Turin derby.

Maresca scored the equaliser for 2-2 in stoppages and ran in front of the Toro bench doing the ‘horns’ gesture made famous by Torino striker Marco Ferrante.

Ferrante was asked about the potential arrival of Maresca and was unimpressed.

“It’s too easy to say sorry after 10 years, but he should’ve apologised the next day,” Ferrante told TMW.

“Maresca doesn’t belong at Toro. Of all the players in the world, why get him? His signing would be disrespectful to those who suffer in the stands and see themselves derided.”
