Mandorlini: 'Unforgettable debut'

Andrea Mandorlini feels Luca Toni deserves an Italy recall after inspiring Verona’s 2-1 victory over Milan.

“It was a very difficult start and we went behind, but then woke up and I’m happy we gave this victory to our fans,” said the Coach.

“We certainly could not have asked for a better debut to the season. It will be an unforgettable match for Verona fans.

“Toni was very happy with his brace and I told him he deserves to be back in the Nazionale. Luca is fantastic, so he deserves these goals as a professional and as a man.”

There was tension before the game amid fears the Hellas Verona fans would aim racist abuse at Mario Balotelli, but they opted to ironically applaud and chant his name instead.

“I was sure the city of Verona would prove its civility. I am happy with this great day of sport,” concluded Mandorlini.
