Mario Balotelli complimented Verona players – but not their fans – and blamed himself for Milan’s defeat.
The Rossoneri opened their Serie A season with a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Bentegodi this evening.
“Compliments to Verona (the players),” wrote Balotelli on Twitter.
“I take the blame for our defeat. In any case, compliments to Verona again.”
There were fears Balotelli would be subjected to racist abuse due to Hellas Verona’s history of fines, but they opted to ironically applaud and cheer him on instead.
It appeared to work, as Super Mario had a disappointing performance and was booked for dissent after a penalty appeal.
