Vincenzo Montella believes Fiorentina strikers Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez are “the perfect couple.”
Both players netted twice in tonight’s thrilling 5-2 victory away to Genoa, which kept the Viola joint top of the table.
“I am not surprised by Rossi’s form, as he is someone who has always been able to find the net. We know he can improve further and with Gomez they make the perfect couple,” Montella told Sky Sport Italia.
“I was really impressed by the final 20 minutes for Gomez, as he fought hard in every position to defend the result.
“We played a perfect opening 20 minutes and thought we had finished off the game, but we slowed the tempo in the second half and allowed Genoa back into it.
“We need to grow, as again we conceded two goals tonight. We ought to be more solid in defence.”
There was one other element that upset Montella, as he was sent off for dissent.
“I didn’t offend anyone. It was my first red card as a Coach.”
