Ignazio Abate and Luca Antonelli are out of Italy’s World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic, so Cesare Prandelli could call new players.

Abate was stretchered off with a thigh problem and Antonelli sprained his ankle during a tackle in the 1-0 win over Bulgaria.

“Unfortunately Antonelli had a sprain on the same ankle that he hurt this summer,” Professor Enrico Castellacci of the Italy medical staff told Rai Sport.

“He has certainly suffered slight ligament damage. We have warned Genoa’s medical staff and more tests are needed to evaluate the extent of the damage.

“Abate felt a strain at the top of his left thigh. I don’t think it is serious, but he too will need further tests.

“Neither of them can play against the Czech Republic, as it is only four days away.”

In his Press conference, Coach Prandelli hinted he could call up extra players for Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic, as he already lost Andrea Barzagli to injury.

“I honestly could not answer that, as at the end of the game I didn’t have a chance to really speak to the Coach.”
