Massimo Oddo thinks former club Milan were right to invest in Alessandro Matri rather than signing another defender.

Despite some believing that the Diavolo are a little short of quality at the back, Oddo thinks spending €11m on Juventus” data-scaytid=”9″>Juventus forward Matri was the way to go.

“Matri has the characteristics that nobody else has in the Milan squad,” the former right-back told Milan News.

“Boss Massimiliano Allegri is looking to give his Milan side something which they have been missing – attacking depth.

“Mario Balotelli and Stephan El Shaarawy have a different kind of game, while M’Baye Niang is the closest thing to Matri but he is not a lead striker.

“As a result I’ll go against what is being said and state that Milan needed a striker more than they required a defender…”

Matri, 29, made his League debut for the Diavolo against former club Cagliari in Week 2.
