Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has backed Rome’s campaign to try and host the 2024 Olympic Games.

Tokyo were granted the right to host the 2020 competition on Saturday, and the Giallorossi man has claimed that the Eternal City would make a great venue for the Games in 11 years’ time.

“To play in the Olympics has always been my dream,” he told reporters. “Every time they come around I offer myself as one of the overage players.

“It would be a wonderful occasion. I was angry when Italy withdrew Rome’s nomination for the 2020 edition.

“However, I understand the economic rationale for the decision. But I think we should try again. It would be a big step forward for Rome.

“To experience that sort of atmosphere would be privilege.”

De Rossi will be 41 when the 2024 Olympics come around.
