“I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I hope soon,” confessed Roma striker Mattia Destro after his injury saga.
The forward has been struggling with recurring knee problems for some time and his condition deteriorated after the European Under-21 Championship in June.
“It is tough to be off the field and I suffer a lot not being able to play,” he told Sport Mediaset.
“I am recovering, but I don’t know when I’ll be back. I hope soon. I cannot see the future, so I don’t know how the knee will react.
“Some ugly rumours have emerged about me over the last few months, but I prefer not to comment on them.”
In his absence, the Giallorossi are temporarily top of the table with Juventus, Inter, Napoli and Fiorentina.
“Roma are doing great things, but for now it’s best not to set objectives,” concluded Destro.
