Manuel Pasqual required further treatment for a head injury sustained for Italy, as the Fiorentina captain now has 50 stitches.

The 31-year-old was stretchered off during the 2-1 win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening after an elbow from Libor Kozak.

Italy medical staff confirmed the wound was over an artery, so he had to be anaesthetised in the locker room when applying stitches.

This morning Pasqual visited a private clinic in Florence to have 50 different stitches put in, as these smaller ones should reduce scarring on his forehead.

It means he is extremely unlikely to play for Fiorentina against Cagliari on Sunday, so Marcos Alonso is ready to step in.
