The Archbishop of Naples believes the city’s patron saint had a part to play in Napoli’s win over Borussia Dortmund.
The Azzurri beat the German outfit 2-1 thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenzo Insigne in the Champions League.
However, archbishop Crescenzio Sepe says the side were also inspired by San Gennaro – the saint who is celebrated in the city’s streets every September 19.
“There was a player on the pitch yesterday who the President wasn’t able to sign, otherwise he would,” Sepe noted. “A certain Gennaro helped Napoli win.”
