Alessandro Matri isn’t convinced Napoli deserved their win at Milan on Sunday night. “We were never out of the match.”
The Azzurri collected a 2-1 victory at San Siro which allowed them to maintain their 100 per cent record in Serie A this season after four games.
“We conceded early and that penalised us,” the summer signing from Juventus told the Milan website.
“From a gameplay point of view, it was one of our best matches to date this season.
“It’s almost absurd that this is the game that we had the most chances to score. I had two and so did Mario Balotelli.
“Maybe we have to be more clinical in front of goal and things would be easier.”
An injury-hit Diavolo have had another rough start to the season given that they have collected just four points from the 12 on offer so far.
They are already eight points behind joint leaders Napoli and Roma, while they are six short of the Champions League zone.
“We have an important match on Wednesday against Bologna and after that against Sampdoria. We need the points to make our way back up the table.”
Matri has yet to open his account for the Rossoneri, but he’s likely to get another chance in midweek given that Balotelli will be suspended.
“I’m happy here tactically but of course I need to score goals,” he noted. “I’ll help my teammates while waiting for that to happen and I hope to get back scoring on Wednesday.”
