Fredy Guarin says Inter are benefitting from their lack of European football, but he’s desperate for the club to get back into the Champions League.
The Nerazzurri only have Serie A and the Coppa Italia to think about this season after finishing 2012-13 in ninth spot.
“Not being a part of the midweek Cup games is an advantage,” the Colombian told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It means that instead of travelling, we can work on all details ahead of matches.
“But I really miss the Champions League. A side like Inter must be in that competition every season. We have to return immediately, also for the fans.”
Inter have started the season well under new boss Walter Mazzarri thanks to four wins and two draws in the championship.
“I’m not that surprised,” added the former Porto man. “That happens when you have a squad who want to prove themselves and a Coach who has clear working ideas.”
The Beneamata will entertain leaders Roma this weekend, a team who have a 100 per cent record in 2013-14 so far.
“They are doing really well and nobody expected they would have such a start. Like Fiorentina, they play good football.
“They have a lot of champions and it will be a good test for us.”
