Inter striker Mauro Icardi celebrates his call-up for Argentina and admits he would not have played for Italy.
Cesare Prandelli had shown interest in calling the forward for international duty with the Azzurri, but he has now been given his maiden call for Argentina.
“I always wanted to play for the Seleccion and in Italy everyone knows I am from Argentina,” said Icardi.
“The only Italian thing I have is a passport. I am here because Leo Messi is injured and I want to make the most of this opportunity.”
Argentina will face Peru and Uruguay over the next few days in their World Cup qualifiers.
