Kevin Strootman warned Roma fans not to let their “euphoria become excessive” after seven straight wins.

The Giallorossi are top of the Serie A table with a 100 per cent record, having scored 20 goals and conceded only one.

“It is an exciting moment, but we are only at the start. I wouldn’t like the euphoria to become excessive,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Serie A is different to the Eredivisie, especially in terms of mentality. The result counts and every team can make life difficult for you.”

Strootman has been a success since arriving from PSV over the summer and revealed some of his best moments in a Roma jersey.

“Alessandro Florenzi sent me a text message after I signed, apologising for his Italy beating Holland in the Under-21 European Championship. Federico Balzaretti cried with joy after scoring in the derby, so that was just wonderful.

“Francesco Totti is the hero of Roma. If there are 100 fans outside the ground, 90 of them are waiting for him.”

Holland have already qualified for the World Cup and thrashed Hungary 8-1 on Friday. Coach Louis Van Gaal praised the midfielder when telling journalists: “The only players certain of a place at the World Cup are Arjen Robben, Robin Van Persie and Kevin Strootman.”
