Cagliari Coach Diego Lopez can’t help but be excited as his team returns ‘home’ to the Sant’Elia against Catania today.

This will be their first match at the Sardinian stadium since April 2012, as the club travelled around various venues including the Is Arenas and Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste.

It kicks off today at 17.00 UK time (18.00 GMT), click here for the match preview.

“Our season begins at the Sant’Elia,” said Lopez in his Press conference.

“It doesn’t matter if for the moment it is only open to 5,000 people. I would’ve been happy playing behind closed doors as long as we finished with the constant travelling.

“The team suffered due to this situation. It might seem like an excuse, but I can assure you it is the truth. President Massimo Cellino is as happy as we are that the situation has been resolved.

“Logically this game is one we should win, seeing as we are playing at home. It won’t be easy, because we’re facing a determined and tough Catania side with excellent individuals. Last season they were the revelation of Serie A.”

Daniele Conti and Andrea Cossu return, but Albin Ekdal, Daniele Dessena and second choice goalkeeper Vlada Avramov are out.

Cagliari squad for Catania: Agazzi, Carboni; Ariaudo, Astori, Avelar, Del Fabro, Murru, Perico, Pisano, Rossettini; Cabrera, Conti, Cossu, Eriksson, Ibraimi, NainggolanIbarbo, Nenè, Pinilla, Sau
