“We want to change the results and I think we have the potential to do it too, so it would be stupid to continue making the same mistakes,” said the Coach.

“I always had a three-man defence in my mind, but never had the opportunity to test it out because we were missing players.

“The squad is lacking unity and solidity on the pitch. I am well aware of the difficulties we are in and how tough our situation is, but I concentrate on the work with determination and expect the same from the players.”

Bologna are still without a victory this season, managing only three stalemates in seven rounds with eight goals scored and 20 conceded.

Opponents Sassuolo are the only side in Serie A to have done worse, scraping two points with five goals netted, leaking 21.

“I have already been through delicate times with this club,” continued Pioli. “It is not the start we wanted and I take responsibility.

“We must change and improve, because we conceded too many goals. We need to approach games in a different way. I hope our recovery can begin here.”
